CMA history
The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) was established in 1947. As the number of Canadian museums increased, so did the need for an organization to represent the sector and its professionals. The CMA was founded when delegates from 13 museums gathered at the Musée de la Province de Québec in 1947 to lay the necessary groundwork that will bring together all stakeholders to establish a national network to speak on behalf of Canadian museums. Following years of attempts to establish a national association, CMA finally came into being after World War II at a time of real determination for peace, values and humanitarian beliefs.
